Le Schlager Girls- Melodifestivalen 2011

-so far it has been all bout the boys at Globen in Melodifestivalen 2011.

From all the rehearsal reports it looks like a Male artist will win- Yet the best
schlager is from Sanna Nielsen & Linda Bengtzing

Linda looks and sounds in fine form with her swedish stomper 'E det fel pa mig med'. We are not sure her yellow outfit was the best choice- this rehearsal top does her a lot more justice

Are we ready for Globen 2011- it's Here and Now?

Its just 2 more sleeps to Globen Melodifestivalen 2011. This saturday night, it will be known - the song that will represent Sweden in dusseldorf 2011. It's all happened so fast, yet the timing of Eurovision this year means Sweden is almost the very last song - to go forward in ESC 2011 submissions. This means the artist & tune has that last song in advantage, I think this worked rather well for Ukraine last year? Although I never liked the song 'Sweet people' in particular.
So this years final- the songs I find not really as strong as last years at all If I go back to 12 months we had Timoteji, Peter Joback, Darin, Ola & Jessica Andersson besides the top 2 -Anna Bergendahl & Salen Al Fakir. In Melodifestivalen 2011 alot of the real good songs got lost in 2nd change round, perhapes 2nd Chance should be extended to 3-4 qualifing songs in the future? Christer did comment last year when asked about the songs that "You can never really tell how popular- or good a song is till 6 months afterwards -when we see how well the song charted & sold" very true words- let's see ..
The two favourites with the public is Danny & Eric Saade- so these two songs should pull in the top public votes. I think Eric will perhapes just have the edge on Danny's song and this could be just what he needs to win. Yet the new international juries will -I think like 'In the Club' alot more, these jury votes will make or break this competion this year. So anything could happen- it will be most interesting. Even The Monkier could win, I would rank him as a strong outsider this year- But is 'oh my god' a ideal song for Eurovision 2011- I have to say I am not 100% convinced
I hate to even bring this up -who can forget back in Melodifestivalen 2009. The first ever Mf International jury was used at Globen As poor Marija Serifovic took to the stage gave the first lowest score to Malena Ernman- we heard the response of boo's from the crowd. Thankfully it was only the public vote that amazingly saved Marlena Ernman that night, if the same is required in 2011- Will it work? I think the new jury system is both bold and exciting
however Sweden -please do not take away too much of your public voice.
Some will even recall a simular thing happened in Melodifestivalen 1973- was'nt it a jury voting that placed Abba's Ring Ring in 3rd place, of course it was different times way back then.
I did think that Boney M had touched or influenced Norway's entry 'Haba haba' on first hearing - that's great I luv this tune!

Will we be able to say the same for Sweden's song in 2011- I am hoping so?

-- 'ohh those swedes.'

Brolle is one of this year's Melodifestivalen 10 Finalist to watch on video

If Sweden is looking for a strong male vocal talent- & a decent song- what about Brolle?- He is by no means the favourite to win. We think his song & performance is on a par with Danny & Eric who just the favourites.

Here is the running order for Globen Final- 2011

it's a Manboy' sandwich - as expected with Danny & Eric.
& the main schlager fillings of Linda Bengtzing & Sanna Neilsen with a dash of some Playtones
( the'Kempe brand of course)
Not by far the mega schlager burger we were expecting for 2011 ...

1.In the Club
-Danny Saucedo

2. Spring fr livet
- Sara Varga

3. Oh My God!
-The Moniker

4. 7 Days And 7 Nights
-Brolle

5. E det fel p mej
- Linda Bengtzing

6. Leaving Home
-Nicke Borg

7. Me And My Drum
-Swingfly

8. Im In Love
- Sanna Nielsen

9. The King
- The Playtones

10. Popular
- Eric Saade

Capt Moniker sneeks in as song 3 - with 'oh my god' a song title that popsters Le Kid had in 2011-as well

The Schlager Ambulance call out to 2nd change Round

Just last night was the second chance round in Melodifestivalen-
Although this has in the past brought to Globen Final classics like those Alcazar hits
'Not a Sinner nor a saint' and the fab 'Alcastar' as well as Shirley Clamp's 'Min karlek'
Sarah Dawn Finer's 'Moving on' -So what happened in 2011?

We are just not really sure ... the final 2nd chance result gave us Sara Varga's 'Spring for Livet' & The Moniker's 'Oh my god' for Globen?

Not the best choices we must say-Sara's ditti for me is very simular to Anna Bergandahl winner of last year- a risky choice. The Monkier is rather different and Mika-like, but I just find the whole
visuals a bit messy- too much going on.

So what happened to the rest - Jenny Silver sadly lost out early on to Love Generation- who went head-to-head in a duel with Sara Varga. Love Generation had been tipped to win Mf 2011 early on, yet lost out. Linda Pritchard's Kempe ballad 'Alive' fell to The Monkier who proved a lot more
popular than expected in the 2nd chance.

The final casualty was with the mighty schlager track 'I through it was forever' Shirley's Angels looked a sure winner over Prenilla Andersson's song. It lost out in the first round- so it was abit of a disapointment for schlager. Shortly we will look at how the tunes do in the swedish top 40-
the best songs so often fall by the way in Melodifestivalen yet turn out to be big sellers and hits.

Schlager FEVER in Malmo before the heated 2nd Chance Round

The last semi final in Malmo- turned out to be another schlager victory this time for
Linda Bengtzing with her new upbeat tune 'E del fel pa mig?' The second Globen place
went to rocker Nicke Borg with his rock ballad 'Coming home' this means one of the favourites had to miss out. This time it was Melody Club with 'The Hunter' which finished in 5 th place.

Other faves Love Generation went on to 2nd Chance together with Linda Pritchard who gave us a performance to remember with 'Alive' This weekend is all set for the Second chance round...
the duel- that has created lots of schalger interest is Jenny Silver vs Love Generation. It seems so unfair to match these 2 great song against each other, we are hoping Jenny can hold off the Love Gen girls to finally getto Globen with the schlager-tastic 'Something in your eyes'

-We did rather like Anders Fernette's performance 'Run' it did not qualify in Malmo- nexttime Anders

Ding Ding- Let's hear it for the boy, Danny- wins in round one

The first semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2011- had one show-topper from Nanne Gronvall singing 'I have nothing' -it was so fantastic to see Nanne back on Melodifestivalen stage we hope one year with the right song Nanne will return to Mf contest again. Until then Nanne confirmed her Schlager-Diva status in Lunea so well.
Meanwhile- Danny became the first to qualify for Globen with his Dance track 'In the club' as he was always a dead certainty for the final. Since he is so popular Danny will be a hit of the 2011 season- yet is this song really a perfect choice for Eurovision? I am not convinced. Then we got Swingfly just another chart hit in the swedish charts that would'nt work too well for Sweden in Dusseldorf - I think. So it certainly looks like a up-beat Melodifestivalen for 2011

One of the first qualifiers for the second chance was Percilla Andersson, a great tune- in fact one of the best on the night. Then what happened to Le Kidd- the performance and tune was certainly worthy of at least 2nd Chance round, it failed to gain the votes. Another causality was the summer-pop song from Jonas Matsson's 'On my own' the only consolation was he showed off his arm tatoos- this alone got one tele-vote from us.
Then came Jenny Silver, what a song! - her performance was nothing short of amazing... and the song everything you can expect from pure-schlager - for sure Bjorn and Benny will be checking their unsured back catalog- on hearing this song ('are you sure we did'nt do this one!' nan!) . This song just has to go to Globen,it made 2nd chance only 'Something in your eyes' is what swedes do best- Jenny was so worthy of that 2nd chance place at Globen.

I hope they do -Listen to their heartbeats' in Melodifestivalen this year, and don't get lost in just trying to be original and a bit different- this has so often not worked for Sweden.
What not we can ask ourselves? it worked well for Belgium's Tom Dice in ESC 2010. That's true but from Sweden the expectation will always be higher- as a leading musical market of Europe.

Jenny does Schlager- and not just in Lulea! in denmark too?

It looks like a most exciting start to Melodifestivalen 2011- with the first semi final in Lulea. There has been a few review & rehearsals taken place. The top favourites at the moment is Danny of EMD, Pernilla Andersson, Jenny Silver. Jenny debuted in 2010 with 'A place to be' a Minogue-eque song that was one of the best of last year- yet missed out on qualifing outside the semi-final.
Now jenny has gone completely schlager with 'Something in your eyes' and with songwriting credits from Thomas G:Son who has brough us many schlager classics in the past.
With Freinds entry 'Listen to your heartbeat' & Carola's mightly 'Invincible' & 'Vem e du vill ha' back in 2002 for Kikki Lotta & Bettan. To name just a few- then last year for Denmark 'In a moment like this' that gave Denmark 4th place in Oslo 2010. So it's really no surprise to see G:Son featured twice with songs in Melodifestivalen 2011 ( he wrote Sanna Nielsen's I'm in Love')
As well as in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix over in Denmark -2 more songs choosen for the danes final in a few weeks.

The first reviews for Jenny silver's entry is a real return to G:Son form - just classic schlager with an Abba-like chorus- with an amazing key change, and even simular to a recent remix of 'Fantasy Island' Tight Fit's 80's hit - that we all adore. All this and a fab frock to boot!

ohhhh.. I feel a historical schlager-moment could well be born in Lulea on saturday.

check out this great clip & interview that reveals the new Jenny silver -look for 'Something in your eyes' (in fact in this clip-she looks almost like a swedish jennifer saunders!!)

Meanwile the danish Schlager G:Son entry is another 'Jenny'- with non other than 90's singer Jenny Berggren from Ace of Base- She recently started her own solo career as ole Ace of Base reformed in 2010- with two replacement girl singers. Ace of base- had been rumoured to take a song into Melodifestivalen/Eurovision for about the past 8 years - yet it just never happened. So maybe now Jenny-does-Schlager in MGP, they may at last take to the Eurovision stage -even if its one Ace of Base member..her song is 'Let your heart be mine' good luck- to both the Jenny's
for a possible Dusseldorf -schlager battle? who knows.

it's the Schlager-Countdown ...one week to go til the curtain falls in Lulea

Dilma was a 90's favourite in sweden- she has the task of opening Melodifestivalen in 2011.
Song 1- 'Try Again' has not always meant success, until recently.
Back in 2007 Elin Lanto sung her 'Money' 2008 Face-82 - 'alla gamla x'
2009 Nina Soderquist rocked us with her 'Tick tock' -All of these did'nt manage to get a place
in Globen final! (Elin did get into 2nd chance round) This all changed last year as the almighty Ola sung 'Unstoppable'- he was certainly that - finishing 7th place in the final and going on
to have one of Sweden's top singles for 2010.

For this year for starters in the New 'internationale Mf'-we have Danny from EMD with his dance tune 'In the Club' he has the last song advantage next saturday in Lulea. Looking at the songwriting credits, (as the songs have yet to be revealed by Svt) we think we should see the schlager-vote pullers in songs from La Kid & Jenny Silver & Danny. One to watch is the best web-joker ever we think Jonas Matsson's 'On my own' (well in the last 2 years)
this tune could be the first web based tune to move out of a semi-final round.

Meanwhile Dilma has a rather excellent single out -Check out 'I'm sorry' - her old hit given a fresh mix with DeeJay Jay. Great
very everything but the girl-eque

Melodifestivalen -with new voting Rules in the Globen Final 2011

-Eric Saade has a 2nd chance at Eurovision glory, will the new voting help him in 2011?

Over in Sweden there has been lots of discussion going on- as New voting rules have been brought in.

The changes to Melodifestivalen voting for 2011.
A normal 11 jury will give a total of 473 points. The juries will be ALL international juries giving their votes from 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 points, as per normal. This has seen over the past 3 years the concept of foreign juries has gone from 1 (2009) to totally taking over from any swedish regional jury. Then the public televote percentage has been reduced by 26%, so the swedish public has less of an influence on the Winner.
If we took away the regional juries input from 2010 Globen Final from the then 5 international juries from Greece, France, Ireland, Norway, Serbia & Russia. The likes of SalemAl Fakir, Eric Saade & Andreas Johnson songs would have been in the Top 3 scoreboard- with no sign of Anna' This is my Life' winner. Then with a reduced swedish TeleVote added to the final mix- we would have seen Salem Al Fakir's 'Keep on Walking' the winner (he came 2nd) with perhapes runner -up of Eric Saade's 'Manboy'- A very different result indeed, yet I think Eric Saade (or Timoteij) -would have still been a 'perfect choice' in Oslo, Salem's song is rather excellent for me, but still would have carried no lesser risk of making Eurovision Song Contest final last year than Anna Bergendahl turned out to be last year. So how will a Sweden/international' entry do in Germany? keep your schlager dial here to find out...

Anders Fernette he will sing 'Run' - With some different writers!

The previous song 'Don't Stop' had to be disqualified, and while it was though the same songwriter ( JC Chasez formally with N'sync) would come up with an equally strong tune for Anders Fernette. Well that did not happen so some more American writers came forward- namely-
Desmond Child, Negin Djafari, Hugo Lira,
Ian-Paolo Lira & Thomas Gustafsson.
The most famous of all these is Desmond Child who has wrote best seller tunes for the likes of Bon Jovi, Cher, Ricky Martin, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Roxette, & Aerosmith he has wrote over 70 US billboard Top 40 hits. Looking at the track record, this Melodifestivalen entry 'Run' could be more a rock orientated track - with a spanish flavour -as Desmond is from Miami.
We are glad anyhow Anders certainly has made the grade and like his new songwriters
This news filling one of the 2 gaps in Melodifestivalen 2011 line-up. The last song- is the one sung by new girl band Love Generation

Monday, November 29, 2010

He turned out to be The Man of the hour- Anders Fernette!

The schlager world is right now buzzin' with the exciting News of the full line up for Melodifestivalen 2011. The full lists of stars and their song writers cannot dissapoint - with the likes of Shirley Clamp & her Angels, Linda Bengtzing, Sanna Nielsen, Linda Pritchard, Dilba Babsam Elisabeth Andreassen & Jenny Silver. Hey That's just the girls, yet with all this excitement - one guy hit the headlines- one spunk Anders Fernet!
Nothing to do with those 'Hungry eyes' of his, but his song had to be disqualified - about an hour after it was made public.
The US song-writers JC Chasez (NSync) Carl Falk & Kristian Lundin (Cheiron) had their song
'Don't Stop' - was released to MySpace and on the web already- so it cannot be eligible for Melodifestivalen. Yet all is not lost as the songwriters have a week to come up with a replacement song to be sung by Anders to keep that much sort-after slot in semi final 4.

JC Chasez from N'SYNC days

Anders starred in Fame Factory then had a couple of big hits in Sweden with a excellent cover of eighties classic 'Hungry Eyes' & follow up 'Lola' we hope he gets it together to still make the grade- cus your Melodifestivalen Needs you Anders-

Here is the final results of the SVT Melodifestivalen 2011 jury...

The final artists are revealed..its very exciting Linda Pritchard returns as does Eric Saade from this year. Eric was not planning to come back two years running & true after his success in 2010, he did not need to. But Eric said his Fredrik Kempe song was too good to turn down. Shirley Clamp is in, but as a group called 'Shirley's Angels' thats wonderful news. Sebastian's here as is Linda Bengtzing & girl-band Love Generation who are hot faves at the moment. Here is the line-up- Artists & songs are

Linkoping -26th Feb
Sara Lumholt - Enemy
Shirley's Angels - I Thought it was Forever
Linda Sundblad - Lucky You
Sebastian - No one else could
Eric Saade - Popular

We are The Playtones...we are coming to get you !

Yes, these guys are the latest artists revealed last night for Melodifestivalen class of 2011- This all happen during Dansbandskampen' finals in Svt, while Uk has X-factor keeping everyone home on saturday night- In sweden they have a talent competion in the X-factor style of the Dansbands. So each year a Dansband get selected as part of Melodifestivalen 2011, via this Tv show. These boys in fact won Dansbandskampen 2009 plus they will have the added bonus of that 'Kempe Magic'

The song is 'The King' wrote by ..
Fredrik Kempe (our schlager 'Hero' who did 'La Voix'& 'Manboy') & Peter Kvint (he has wrote "Sing for Me"(2005) "When The Night Comes Falling" & "A Little Bit Of Love" (2007), "One Love" for Carola & Andreas (2008)

More exciting news of the other artists in the last to semi finals will be revealed next week. We can hardly wait to hear who the final names for semi 3 & 4 ? according to expressen news- we could see the return of Shirley Clamp ( hurrah! last seen at Tescos in 2009) Eric Saade (the shower boi -yeeeah!) and a favourite of ours from melodiifestivalen 2006 Sebastian who sung 'when the night falls'
These names have yet to be confirmed so all subject-to-change- lets wait n' see

- we have our schlager finger crossed for all three.

How the first 2 Semi-Finals of Melodifestivalen 2011 are looking......

-Danny -song 2

Lule semi-final-5th Feb
1- Desperados - Roy Andersson
2- In The Club - Danny
3- Me And My Drum - Swingfly
4- Oh My God - Le Kid
5- On My Own - Jonas Matsson
6- Social Butterfly - Rasmus Viberg
7- Something In Your Eyes - Jennifer Silver
8- Try Again - Dilba

It looks like an interesting opening semi final- for me the highlight could well be 'Something in your eyes' As this has the promise of being a schlager anthem with time! As far as popular artists. Dilba-she has been very big in sweden during the 90's and ready for a big comeback. Danny from EMD is returning to his club electro roots, as he has had European success bout 5 years ago- & hopes to repeat this in Mf if 'In the club' is as good as his old hit 'Tokyo' he should be a Globen certain hit. Plus lets not Rule out Jonas Matsson (web-joker) & newbie popsters La Kid.

-Brolle -song 7

Gteborg semi-final-12th Feb
1- Elektrisk - Anniela
2- Ge mig en spanjor - Babsan
3- I'm In Love - Sanna Nielsen
4- Like Suicide - Christian Walz
5- My Heart Is Refusing Me - Loreen
6- Oh My God! - The Moniker
7- Seven Days & Seven Nights - Brolle
8- Vaken i en drm - Elisabeth Andreassen

Strangely for this Semi 2 we have an odd number of big stars with Sanna, Elisabeth Andreassen & Brolle you would think they would be at Globen final. So will one of them have to use the 2nd Chance round perhapes, and who will need to do that?. Loreen & Babsen look like the strongest outsiders. With the right tunes there can be more than one schlager-battle on here ! Sanna always gives her best & with her track record in recent years - I hope Sanna wins this one. ( and not just cus sanna has confirmed at least one key change in 'I'm in Love')

'Charlotte Perrelli say No'- to the song for her in Melodifestivalen 2011

This week the press over in Stockholm have gone crazy with Melodifest'Stories one of the biggest was that- Svt had dropped Charlotte Perrelli for 2011! Thankfully Charlotte came
forward to but the schlager facts right t'other morning.

Charlotte was our Hero' back in 2008, and its been no secret that she adores Melodifestivalen. However she has always been clear both times when she has taken part as a singer- it was all 'bout a fantastic song! just perfect for Ms Perrelli. According to the press 'Something in your Eyes' was wrote with Charlotte in mind. This new song is said to be an abba-inspired dansband tune, so Charlotte felt it did not fit at all with her current music style. As well as fitting in with her new studio album due out in 2011. ( yipppy)
So Jenny Silver was the schlager-saviour to perform 'Something in your eyes' composed by Erik Bernholm, THomas G:Son & Henrik Sethsson. We cannot wait to hear this song, it sounds like just what we need for the new Melodifestivalen. Its a shame Charlotte Perrelli did not take the challenge this time. According to the news she will never say 'never again' (Agnetha & Tomas Ledin, 1983 hit) to Melodifestivalen.
Charlotte has won two times Melodifestivalen & sung 'Take me to your heaven' in 1999 winning Eurovision for Sweden that year.
That is a most impressive track record
- so how do you follow that?

Jenny Silver Returns with added Schager-Power

Who can forget the amazing performance of Jenny Silver last year with her excellent tune 'A Place to stay' - check out the vid.
slowly gained a place in tattoowesley Top 10 from 2010. It was very minogue-eque and that is wonderful. Jenny is confirmed with more Artists for the first 2 semi-finals - Names like Brolle, he is a massive singer in sweden. Who has been rumoured
to be doin' Melodifestivalen for the past couple of years..finally 2011 is his time. If you have not heard from him before - expect he may well have the same impact that 'Darin' had this year in the competion.
La Kidd- a NEW five-piece Perfect-Pop group who remind me of a cross between Same Difference vs. Aqua ( muchmore on them later) they will sing 'Oh my God'.

OMG indeed with -More excitement, to find out Jenny silver's tune 'Something in your eyes' is co-wrote by Thomas G:son who has certain spread schlager-magic over to Denmark's 'In a moment like this' Eurovision entry this year- as well as 'Listen to my heartbeat' by Freinds in 2001. Plus far too many more tunes to mention.

We still await more names in the second batch of Semi's songs from SVT heatquarters very soon..and if the rumour is true
Jenny will not be the only class of 2010 coming back for more- The people's wet choice Eric Saade - could be back
to try once more...?

Now that's gotta be a good thing..even bring your bollie along to Mf 2011-just in case there could be a shower!
