Today (Aug 31) is Itzhak Perlman's 63rd birthday.
Perlman is the elder statesman of great violinists, and also a leading educator of young (and advanced) musicians.

=>For all you downtown hipsters, I am playing two very cool shows at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn on March 28 and 29. I will be performing two brand new works by Elizabeth Brown with the Momenta quartet. One piece is for string quartet and theremin. This is the most fascinating instrument, manipulated through radio waves, and sounding eerily like a human voice. The music will be performed with a video installation by artist Lothar Osterberg. The other piece is for string quartet and shakuhachi, a Japanese recorder-like instrument with a deep, rich sound. It is very cool, and even worth the shlep to Brooklyn. (Just kidding, brooklynites!)
