HRISTO STOICHKOV BIOGRAPHY

BIOGRAPHY AND CAREER

Hristo Stoichkov ; born 8 February 1966 in Plovdiv is a retired Bulgarian footballer. He is the son of a goalkeeper who played for the local side Spartak. Nicknamed The Dagger , he was a member of the Bulgaria national team that finished fourth at the 1994 World Cup. Apart from his footballing talent, he was notable for his on-pitch temper. He was honoured as European Footballer of the Year in 1994. He was named by Pel as one of the 125 Greatest Living Footballers at a FIFA Awards Ceremony in 2004.

Stoichkov began his career in his hometown, moving to Hebros in 1984. The next year he went to CSKA Sofia. There, he was involved in a fight during the final of the 1985 Bulgarian Cup which resulted in his suspension. After he was brought back to football, he managed to win the European Golden Boot with CSKA by scoring 38 goals in 30 games. He then moved on to FC Barcelona, where he was part of Johan Cruyff's 'Dream Team', Stoichkov helped Barcelona to one of the most successful era of the club, winning the Primera Division four years in a row between 1991 and 1994 and the European Cup after defeating Sampdoria in 1992. During his stay in Barcelona, he had become an idol for the club's fans, and was Bara's most popular player at the time, having earned a place in the supporters' hearts much like Johan Neeskens and Diego Maradona in the past. In Barcelona Stoichkov played in tandem with Romrio.

In his first season with the club Stoichkov was suspended for two months for stomping on a referee's foot,[1] but he still netted 14 league goals and six more in the Cup Winners' Cup. Stoichkov then had short spells with Parma, Al-Nassr, and finally finishing his career in Japan with Kashiwa Reysol and the United States with the Chicago Fire and D.C. United.

In 1994, he was named European Footballer of the Year after leading his national side to the 1994 World Cup semifinals.

At the 1994 World Cup, Stoichkov was awarded the World Cup Golden Boot as the joint top goal scorer of the tournament (with Oleg Salenko), with six goals, as well as earning the Bronze Ball award. He led Bulgaria past Germany to the semi-finals, where they lost 21 to Italy. They subsequently lost the third place play-off to Sweden, 40.

Bulgaria finished second in the qualifying group for Euro 1996 after the first place was taken by the eventual winners, Germany. Stoichkov scored 10 goals for his team during the qualifiers, as Bulgaria qualified as one of the best 6 runners-up. In the first match against Germany in Sofia, Bulgaria were 20 down at half-time. Stoichkov equalized with two goals from penalties and Emil Kostadinov also scored for a 32 win. Bulgaria lost the second match in Germany 31.

During the finals, Bulgaria lost 31 in the decisive group match against a very strong France side (the future World Champions); at the same time, in the other match, Spain won 21 late on against Romania and so the Bulgarians went out. In that tournament, Stoichkov scored 3 goals in 3 matches, and another goal against Spain was disallowed for offside, though action replays show that he was actually on-side. Stoitchkov was the only player to score from a free kick (against France) in this tournament.

He was also part of the squad that was eliminated in the first round of the 1998 World Cup. Bulgaria was not nearly as strong as in previous years, earning only one point in a 00 draw against Paraguay and scoring only one goal through Kostadinov in a 61 defeat by Spain in the so-called "Group of Death".

Stoichkov retired from internationals in 1999 with 37 goals in 83 appearances. Subsequently he was the coach of the Bulgarian national team from 2004 to April 2007.

Stoichkov played as a left winger who was known for his explosive acceleration and speed dribbling, and for taking unpredictable shots on goal. He was also notable at taking free kicks and penalties as well as being among the best crossers in the world at his prime. He gained much popularity because of his aggressive temper on the pitch. He could often be seen arguing with the referee, or with his opponents. In 2006, he was sued by a former American University college student whose leg he broke in a violent tackle during a match against D.C. United in 2003. The case was settled out of court in 2007 for undisclosed financial terms. The student's coach called Stoichkov's challenge "criminal". Ray Hudson, who coached D.C. United for whom Stoichkov played at the time, called it a "rash tackle". Following an investigation by MLS, Stoichkov was suspended two games and fined $2,000.

In the 200304 season, Stoichkov started a coaching career, serving as a forwards coach at Bara. After Bulgarian national team coach Plamen Markov resigned in the wake of the team's first-round exit from Euro 2004, the Bulgarian Football Union named him as the new national team coach on 15 July.

Stoichkov's coaching career got off to a bad start with him failing to qualify the Bulgarian national team for the 2006 World Cup. He brought his bad temper from his career as a player to the coaching bench. A couple of proven players quit the team due to personal differences with Stoichkov. The most notable scandal was on 5 September 2003, in a game against Sweden, where he was sent-off for insulting the referee.

The biggest blow to Stoichkov as a coach of the national team of Bulgaria came on 12 October 2006, when Stiliyan Petrov, the captain of the team, announced he would not play for Bulgaria as long as Stoichkov was manager. Petrov is the third player and the second captain in two years to leave the team because of differences with Stoichkov. However, on 17 March 2007, Stiliyan Petrov announced that he had a private conversation with Stoichkov, in which they were able to work their differences out. As a result, Petrov would return to the team.

On 10 April 2007, the Bulgarian Football Union announced they had accepted the resignation of Stoichkov from the post of national coach. That was as a result of the poor performance of the team at the ongoing Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, followed by widely spread criticism and debate over the qualities of the coach. The specific game, which led to increased pressure on Stoichkov, was the 00 home draw with Albania.(despite the fact that the Bulgarians generally controlled the game and hit the post twice). He had a short disappointing stint as manager at Celta Vigo, for which he was sacked following the team's slump that took them to the lower reaches of the Spanish Second Division. On 8 October 2007, he was replaced by ex-Real Madrid manager Juan Ramn Lpez Caro. On 12 March 2009, Stoichkov visited the Manchester City training ground after requesting a visit.

On 14 May 2009, Iranian club Abu Moslem reported the signing of Stoichkov as coach. However Stoichkov then changed his mind due to the tense political situation in Iran, instead opting to move to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he replaced Henri Michel on 29 June 2009. On 16 March 2010 he quit Mamelodi Sundowns, with the former South African national team manager Trott Moloto named caretaker until a full-time replacement is found.

ROBERTO MANCINI BIOGRAPHY

BIOGRAPHY
Roberto Mancini born 27 November 1964 in Jesy Ancona Italy, is an Italian football manager, formerly an international player and current manager of English Premier League team Manchester City.

As a player he was best known for his time at Sampdoria, where he played more than 550 league matches, and helped them win the Serie A league title, four Coppa Italias and the Cup Winners Cup, whilst being capped 36 times by Italy.

In the latter days of his playing career he was an assistant to Sven Goran Eriksson at Lazio. Following the end of his playing career, he moved into management and achieved success at both ends of the footballing spectrum. He began his managerial career with a cash stricken Fiorentina, at only 35 years old. He managed to win a Coppa Italia, but left with Fiorentina facing bankruptcy. A few months later, he took over as manager at Lazio, where again he inherited financial constraints and was forced to lose a number of key players. With limited resources during his two season tenure, he still managed to win another Coppa Italia, reach the UEFA Cup semi-final, and secure a lucrative Champions League place. Mancini thus garnered a reputation for what he could do on a shoestring.

In 2004, Mancini was given the chance to manage a major club, being offered the manager's job at Inter by Massimo Moratti. During his tenure at Inter, the club won 3 consecutive Serie A titles (an Inter club record) and a European record 17 consecutive league game victories stretching nearly half a season. He was Inter's most successful manager in 30 years.Furthermore, Mancini had guided the clubs he managed to a record 5 consecutive Coppa Italia finals from 2004 to 2008, with Lazio once in 2004 and with Inter in the following 4 seasons. Despite his domestic success, many pundits saw the repeated failure to win the coveted Champions League as the main reason for his sacking in 2008.

Whilst out of football for over a year, Mancini made kown his desire to work in England. He was a surprise appointment as Manchester City manager in December 2009. His team-building achievements at Lazio and Inter were a factor in this. His tradition of wearing a scarf of his club's colours has been continued at Manchester City

Mancini has been married for nearly 20 years to his wife Federica and have a daughter and two sons, Filippo and Andrea who have both played in the Internazionale youth ranks where Filippo managed to play 10 minutes in a single Coppa Italia match for Inter. Both of his sons have at one point been a part of Manchester City's youth set-up under the reign of Sven-Gran Eriksson Filippo trained with the City academy for several months of the 200708 season, while Andrea was signed by his father for the Manchester City under-21 Elite Development Squad in November 2010 after being released from Bologna.

KENNY DALGISH PROFILE

Kenneth Mathieson "Kenny" Dalglish born 4 March 1951 is a former Scottish footballer and current manager of Liverpool F.C. In 2009, he was named by FourFourTwo football magazine as the greatest striker in post-war British football.

In a 20-year playing career, Dalglish played for two teams, Celtic and Liverpool, achieving success with both. Dalglish is the most capped Scottish player, with 102 appearances. He and Denis Law also share the record for most goals for Scotland, with 30 each.

Dalglish began his career with Celtic and became the team captain in 1975. Between 1971 and 1977 he won four Scottish First Division titles, four Scottish Cups and one Scottish League Cup. In 1977, Bob Paisley paid a British transfer record of 440,000 to bring Dalglish to Liverpool.

His years at Liverpool marked one of the club's most prolific periods: he won seven league titles, three European Cups and five domestic cups. For these achievements, he is nicknamed King Kenny, and he was placed first in Liverpool's list of "100 Players Who Shook the Kop".Dalglish became player-manager of Liverpool in 1985 following the Heysel Stadium Disaster and brought the team a league and FA Cup double in his first year in charge, beating Merseyside rivals Everton in the process. During his six-year tenure from 19851991, Liverpool won the league championship three times and the FA Cup twice.

Dalglish joined Blackburn Rovers in 1991 and he turned the Second Division side into Premier League winners in 1995. His move to Newcastle United in 1997 was less successful. Dalglish was appointed Director of Football at Celtic in 1999 but a stint as caretaker manager ended in an acrimonious departure the following year.

Between 2000 and 2010 Dalglish focused on charitable concerns, founding The Marina Dalglish Appeal with his wife to raise money for cancer care. On 8 January 2011, Dalglish became Liverpool's manager for a second time, after the departure of Roy Hodgson.

CARLO ANCELOTTI PROFILE

Carlo Michelangelo Ancelotti
born 10 June 1959 is a former footballer who played for the Italy national football team, and is current manager of Chelsea.

Nicknamed Carletto, Ancelotti played as a midfielder and had a successful career with Roma captaining the team with whom he won one Scudetto and 4 Coppa Italia and was part of the legendary late 80's Milan team, with whom he won two Scudetti and two European Cups in a five-year period. He was capped 26 times and scored one goal for the Italian national team and appeared at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups.

After spells as manager of Reggiana, Parma and Juventus, Carlo Ancelotti was appointed Milan manager in 2001. He won the Scudetto in 2004, the Champions League in 2003 and 2007 and the Coppa Italia in 2003. They were also Serie A and Champions League runner-ups in 2005. He is one of six men to have won the European Cup as player and manager. In May 2009 he was appointed Chelsea manager and in his first season led them to a historic Premier League and FA Cup Double. He became only the second non-British manager to win the double, the other being Arsne Wenger.

Club career
Carlo Ancelotti began his career in 1974 with Parma. In 1979, he transferred to Roma, as captain and midfielder, where he won the Italian championship in 1983, the Coppa Italia four times and helped Roma to reach the European Cup final in 1984. From 1987 until 1992, he played for Milan, and was part of the Milan squad that won consecutive European Cups in 1989 and 1990. During this time, Milan played with one of their finest teams ever assembled in that decade, with Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Mauro Tassotti and Alessandro Costacurta as defenders, Frank Rijkaard, Ruud Gullit and Roberto Donadoni as midfielders and Marco van Basten upfront. His finest moment with Milan was when he received a pass from Ruud Gullit, dribbled around two Madrid players, and netted a powerful long-range shot during the Rossoneri's 50 thrashing of Real Madrid in the 1989 European Cup semi-finals. He went on to play all 90 minutes in Milan's 40 dismantling of Steaua Bucuresti in the final.

International career

Ancelotti made his debut and scored his first and only goal on 6 January 1981, in a one-off tournament against Netherlands, which ended in a 11 draw. He was very likely to be capped for the 1982 World Cup campaign, but a dramatic knee injury forced him away for several months. He also went on to appear in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, along with Roberto Donadoni, Roberto Mancini and Paolo Maldini. Ancelotti made a total of 26 performances, scoring one goal for Italy, before he announced his retirement from international football in 1991.

Personal life
In 1983, Ancelotti has two children: a daughter, Katia, and a son, Davide, who also played in the Milan youth team and later joined Borgomanero in June 2008. In 2008, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in an interview that he had broken up with his wife of 25 years.

In May 2009, Ancelotti's autobiography, Preferisco la Coppa ("I Prefer the Cup", with a word-play by Ancelotti on the Italian word "coppa" that stands both for "cup" and a type of cured cold pork meat cut), was published, with all proceeds from sales of the book going to the Fondazione Stefano Borgonovo for the funding of research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Recently, Ancelotti has had to travel back to Italy on a regular basis to visit his 87-year-old father who was in poor health with diabetes and other issues. On the issue he said "I don't have a problem managing the team for this reason. It's difficult, emotionally, when it's your father... but this is life. I have to do my best to stay close to him, but this is the life." Giuseppe Ancelotti died in the early hours of 30 September 2010.

JOSE MOURINHO PROFILE

Jos Mrio dos Santos Flix Mourinhoborn 26 January 1963 in Setbal) is a Portuguese football manager and the current manager of Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga. He has the nickname "The Special One", a self-proclaimed title which was later taken up by the British media.

The son of Portuguese goalkeeper Jos Flix Mourinho, Mourinho started out as a player but he was dissatisfied with his lack of skill and switched to management. After spells working as an assistant manager and a youth team coach in the early 1990s, he became an interpreter for Sir Bobby Robson. There, Mourinho learnt much from the veteran coach and worked with him at Sporting Clube de Portugal and Porto in Portugal, before following him to Spanish club Barcelona.

He began focusing on coaching and impressed with brief but successful managerial periods at Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Unio de Leiria. He returned to Porto in 2002, this time as head coach, and soon became a force to be reckoned with, making the treble, winning the Portuguese Liga, Cup of Portugal, and UEFA Cup in 2003. Greater success followed in 2004 as Mourinho guided the team to the top of the league for a second time and won the highest honour in European club football, the UEFA Champions League.

Mourinho moved to Chelsea the following year and won two consecutive Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006, among other domestic honours. He often courted controversy for his outspokenness, but his victories at Chelsea and Porto established him as one of the world's top football managers, well regarded by both his peers and the press. Additionally, he was named the world's best football manager by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) for both the 200405 and 200506 seasons.

After a fall-out with the Chelsea hierarchy, he moved to Italy's Serie A, signing a three-year contract with Internazionale in mid-2008. Within three months, he had won his first Italian honour, the Supercoppa Italiana, and completed his first season in Italy by winning the Serie A league title. Mourinho followed that on the next season by winning the first treble in Italian history, the Serie A league title, Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League, thus becoming the third manager in football history to win two UEFA Champions League with two different teams, after Ernst Happel and Ottmar Hitzfeld. Due to these achievements he again won the IFFHS best football manager for the 200910 season and the first ever FIFA Ballon d'Or Best Coach Award in 2010.

Mourinho is regarded by some as the best manager in world football today. In 2010, before their semi-final second-leg clash, Josep Guardiola of Barcelona said: "In terms of the world's best managers, when you compare Jos [Mourinho] to Sir Alex [Ferguson], Arsne [Wenger] and Fabio [Capello], he is still very young. But even at his age there is a very strong case for him being the best manager in the world. That's the truth."

On 28 May 2010, his appointment as head coach at Real Madrid was confirmed, signing a four-year contract. The legendary multi-time World Champion and previous World No.1 former chess player, Grandmaster Garry Kasparov, has used the Portuguese coach as an example of strategy and leadership in February 2011 on a press conference, and said: "Whoever shows such good results with several teams, as is the case of Jos Mourinho, has to be a great psychologist and strategis

Personal life
Mourinho with his children, Matilde and Jos Jr. Mourinho met his wife Matilde "Tami" Faria, born in Angola, when they were teenagers in Setbal, Portugal, and the couple married in 1989. Their first child, daughter Matilde, was born in 1996 and they had their first son, Jos Mrio, Jr., four years later. Mourinho, whilst dedicated to football, describes his family as the centre of his life and has noted that the "most important thing is my family and being a good father." He was selected as the New Statesman Man of the Year 2005 and was described as a man devoted to both his family and his work. Mourinho has also been a part of social initiatives and charity work, helping with a youth project, bringing Israeli and Palestinian children together through football and donating his "lucky" jacket to Tsunami Relief, earning 22,000 for the charity. Jos Mourinho is a Catholic.

Widely known for his strong personality, refined dress sense, and quirky comments at press conferences, Mourinho has experienced fame outside of football circles, featuring in European advertisement campaigns for Samsung, American Express and adidas, amongst others. An unofficial biography of Mourinho, titled O Vencedor De Setbal a Stamford Bridge (The Winner from Setbal to Stamford Bridge), was a best seller in Portugal. However, Mourinho did not authorise the biography and attempted, unsuccessfully, to prevent the book from being published.

Mourinho was part of an unusual event in May 2007 when he was arrested for preventing animal welfare officials from putting his dog in to quarantine. The dog had not been sufficiently inoculated but the situation was resolved after it was returned to Portugal and Mourinho received a police caution.

In 23 March 2009, Jos Mourinho was awarded a doctorate honoris causa degree by the Technical University of Lisbon for his accomplishments in football.
Mourinho speaks Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French and English fluently. He also speaks Catalan. In October 2010, Mourinho was ranked No.9 on the list of Most Influential Men published by AskMen.com.
