Club career Early career
D�eko made his debut at FK �eljeznicar, playing as a midfielder between 2003 and 2005, but with little success. He was broadly considered as too big, and with poor mechanical abilities. D�eko's adviser at the time though, Jiri Pli�ek, glimpsed his promise and when Pli�ek returned dwelling to the Czech Republic, he suggested FK Teplice to purchase him. �eljeznicar acknowledged a tender of just �25,000 for D�eko, prompting one of the Bosnian club's controllers to state, "[we] considered we won the lottery".
